I suffer from insomnia too and found that watching something on TV that I have seen before (so that I am not TOO interested) will lull me to sleep eventually.

Lately, I have been using my iPhone which has been working really well. I put my earphones in, turn the volume down to the lowest setting, start a movie, and rarely make it through the first half hour.

I too am so ridiculously over insomnia. I have tried sleep aids, cough medicine, and even some "herbal" methods, but nothing seems to work. Even when I try to ignore all the thoughts in my head, I STILL cannot do it :(

I am so sorry to read this hun. While I've never met your sister I feel like I know her and my heart breaks for her. And while I've also never met your nephew, I've watched him grow up and I can't imagine how anyone (esp his father) wouldn't want to be part of the life of such an incredible young man.

I totally agree with you. I also experience it every single night. And its getting worst, so I decided to consult a doctor. The doctor gives me a sleeping pills that will help me in sleeping. I was happy that it was working for me. But then after few weeks I am back in the scenario that can't sleep during nights. OMG! What will I do? It's already affecting my work. My husband advice me to play games online so that I'll get sleepy but then he was wrong. Because the time that I am playing online games, I get more excited in leveling up my game. So I end up playing the whole night. we might get back to the doctor again.

The two MTA workers weren't police. They were people who work in a miserable subway station collecting toll money for about $8 an hour.

MORALLY could (or *should*) they have left their booth to help? Morally, yes, but I read the story you linked and the victim had her feet touched on the train so she left at one of the stops. When the harassers left with her, I am sure she was nervous. I would have tried to re-enter the train, but maybe that wasn't possible.

For the underpaid cashiers, it would have been RECKLESS for them to leave the safety of their booth. Clearly they called NYPD and in the ensuing 10 minutes before the cops arrived, she was raped twice and that's awful...BUT that was the work of the rapists (who have never been found).

It's a slippery slope when you write a blog to chastise transit workers (perhaps single moms, with children at home) for not putting themselves in harm's way. I am new to your blog so I have no idea what you do for a living, but if a crime was committed in YOUR work place and you chose not to put yourself in front of a bullet, should you be sued? Really??

The rapists committed an awful crime. The transit workers did not. The victim "wishes" they did more...and maybe the presence of another person would have resulted in the rapists overpowering the victim and killing her and the transit worker as well. Better result?

Good on the judge who was thinking clearly enough to not find criminal or actionable this frivilous accusation. The victim should THANK the workers for alerting 911. The RAPISTS should be punished within the penal system.

NEXT TIME, maybe transit workers should truly fear being blamed and sued and therefore turn a blind eye on people being abused in their workplace...? Shame on you for being so uninformed.

If some acquaintance has my number and leaves an unwanted and unsolicited message, why should I be forced to return that call?

After the second or third time or receiving a message, I have left a return message, through this system. My "umwanted" caller does not have email so that wasn't an option.

People phone when it's a convenient time for them. Not everyone who calls me is someone I choose to have a conversation with....I can't understand why this option even warrants a discussion. Clearly, you won't use it and that's fine. If you "catch on" that someone is doing this to you...get the hint that they receive your voicemails, but have no interest in wasting time conversing with you.

I tend to get it when I'm at university, purely because the hard partying / late nights spent on essays usually result in very odd sleeping patterns. Usually though, I find a mug of hot cocoa and pushing my face into my pillow helps to knock me out! Actually, I probably shouldn't recommend that last bit cos it sounds a bit dangerous.

I've ALWAYS been a practicing insomniac. Now I'm closer to ancient I seem to have reverted to a 'baby-like' schedule of 2-4 naps 0f 1-3 hours each per day on 'restful' days.
